MODE Size Chart & Fit Guide
Find your size in two steps: choose Small, Medium or Large by your US shoe size, then choose Standard or Wide by your calf. Between sizes? Size up.
Step 1: Find your size by US shoe size.
Step 2: Measure the widest part of your calf. If it's above the Standard range for your size, choose Wide.

Finding your size
What size MODE socks should I get?
Start with your US shoe size to choose Small, Medium or Large. Then measure the widest part of your calf. If it's more than 15" (Small), 16" (Medium) or 17" (Large), choose the Wide version of that size.
What if I'm between sizes?
Size up. A slightly roomier fit is more comfortable, especially if you're new to compression.
Do MODE socks run small?
No. They follow US shoe sizes. Compression socks should feel snugger than regular socks, so a firm fit at the ankle is normal.
Are MODE socks unisex?
Yes, all MODE socks fit both men and women. You'll find a shoe size column for both in our size guide.
How to measure
How do I measure my calf?
- Sit on a chair with your foot flat on the floor and your knee bent at about 90 degrees.
- Wrap a soft measuring tape around the widest part of your calf. Keep it snug but not tight.
- Take note of the measurement in inches or centimeters.
- Measure both legs (if one is larger than the other, use the larger number).
Tip: Measure in the morning if you can, before your legs swell during the day.
No tape? A piece of string and a ruler work too.
Which size for pregnancy or swelling?
Measure your calf at the end of the day, when swelling is highest, and choose your size from that number. If your measurements change a lot, measure again before you reorder. More on compression socks for pregnancy
How they should fit
How should MODE socks fit?
- The cuff should rest about 1 inch (2–3 fingers) below the bend of your knee.
- The feel: firm at the ankle and lighter toward the knee. That's graduated 15-20mmHg compression working.
- No rolling or digging in at the top band, and no bunching at the ankle.
- The foot fits like your regular socks, with the heel in the heel pocket and toes comfortably in the toe bed.
How do I know if I need a different size?
- The cuff rolls down, digs in or leaves a deep mark → try Wide, or the next size up.
- The sock slides down or wrinkles at the ankle → try the next size down.
- You have excess material in the footbed → try the next size down.
What if my size doesn't fit?
Your first pair is covered by our First Pair Guarantee: one free return or exchange on one opened pair from your first order. See our returns policy. Contact kate@modecompression.com if you need to request a return/exchange.
Wide calf sizing
How does wide calf sizing work?
MODE Wide sizes are based on your shoe size, so a wider calf doesn't assume you also have a bigger foot. A women's size 7 shoe with a 17" calf wears Small Wide, not Large.
Wide sizes come in Small, Medium and Large and fit calves up to 20". They have the same 15-20mmHg graduated compression as our Standard sizes. Shop wide calf compression socks
What if my calf is wider than 20"?
Our Wide sizes fit calves up to 20". If your calf is wider, email kate@modecompression.com and we'll help you decide whether MODE is a good fit.
Compression level
What compression level are MODE socks?
Every MODE sock is 15-20mmHg graduated compression: moderate, non-prescription support for everyday wear, long shifts, travel and pregnancy. Size changes the fit, not the compression level. Learn what 15-20mmHg means
Washing & shrinkage
Will MODE socks shrink in the wash?
Machine wash and tumble dry low, ideally in an intimates wash bag. A little shrinkage after drying is normal. The socks stretch back to fit when you put them on.
